The Solatube Brighten Up®
Series is a quality system that has been engineered to make installation
as easy as possible with fewer parts to assemble and easy-install
features such as 'easy snap' dome, pre-installed dome spacers, twist-fit
ceiling ring and snap on/off ceiling diffuser. Below is an overview
of Solatube installation options, some tips on positioning your
Solatube, and full downloadable installation instructions for the
Brighten Up® Series.
Solatube installation
service In most areas of the UK, we can arrange
for an experienced, independent installer to fit your Solatube
system in your home, quickly and efficiently with the minimum
of disruption.
Installers charges start at around £300
plus VAT per system, subject to their confirmation, for a
typical application such as a bungalow or two storey house
where roof access is straightforward.
Please advise us
when you order your Solatube that you require installation
and we will provide details of your nearest installers.
Do
it yourself If you are a competent DIYer,
then you can fit Solatube yourself. You should allow 4-5 hours
for installation, particularly for your first installation.
You will need to carry out some work on your roof, so you should
only undertake this part of the installation if you are confident
to do so safely. Prior to starting installation we recommend
you read the instructions thoroughly and check the latest Health
& Safety Guidelines from the HSE regarding working
at height.
Employ
a builder/tradesperson If you are not confident to tackle
the job yourself, then you can employ your own builder to install
Solatube. Any competent builder, roofer or home maintenance
professional should be able to install your Solatube for you.
Some tips on installing your Solatube:
Solatube performs best in dark areas of your
home that have no source of natural light or receive only minimal
daylight.
To avoid the clutter of multiple ceiling
fixtures, Solatube may be fitted with an integral electric light
kit thus providing day and night-time lighting in one neat system.
For bathrooms, a ventilation kit may also be combined with the
Solatube 160DS to provide a multi-functional 3 in 1 system.
For optimum performance keep the tube length
and number of angles to a minimum
For optimal light distribution in long
narrow rooms or corridors, multiple Solatube Daylight Systems
may provide more uniform light output than one larger central
unit.

Thinking of installing a flexible tube
system? Some people are tempted to buy flexible tube
systems because they believe that they are easier than rigid tube
systems such as Solatube to install, and they may be cheaper. As
with most purchases you get what you pay for; flexible tube systems
tend to have lower quality components and materials. Furthermore,
to achieve any chance of being able to transmit the best (for a
flexible tube!) level of light, the flexible tube has to be pulled
tight and this is can be very difficult to achieve. A floppy tube
is simply never going to work effectively - and even when the tube
is stretched as tight as possible, it will never match the performance
of a rigid tube system. So, as well as getting vastly more light
for your money, Solatube Daylight Systems are simpler to install
with click-fit and snap-on components and no tube stretching needed!
