tubes
Solatube extension tubes
are supplied in 610mm (2ft) lengths. When assembled,
each extension tube is slightly tapered to allow them
to telescope together to the exact tube length required.
The 99.7% super-reflective Spectralight®
Infinity material used in Solatube extension tubes
means that very effective light delivery is possible
with tube lengths of up to 6 metres for the Solatube
160DS, 9 metres for the Solatube 290DS, and 15 metres
for the Solatube 21-C. Spectralight®
Infinity has the highest reflectivity of any commercially-available
material in the world - 99.7% - resulting in the brightest,
purest light transfer and unmatched colour rendition.
The Spectralight® Infinity
material is permanently fixed with thermoset adhesive
to provide permanent bond to a 0.4mm thick aluminium
substrate and protected by PET film for long-lasting
reflectivity. The end result is a rigid, robust tube
with a super-reflective mirrored inner surface.

Aluminium tape (provided) is used to seal the joins
when you telescope the tubes together. For very long
tube lengths we recommend that self-tapping screws
(provided) are also used for added rigidity.

Even small differences in reflective values will make a
significant difference to the amount of light that is finally
delivered. For example, the difference between 99.7% and
98% doesn't sound that great, but when you check the percentage
of light remaining after just 20 bounces, you can see that
Spectralight® Infinity delivers
almost 30% more light than a 98% reflective material.
